Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position requiring an active IL RN license and ICU skills including stroke management and drip titration.

Responsibilities

• Work in an 18-bed Neuro ICU within an acute care hospital setting
• Patient population includes neurological cases such as ventriculostomies, stroke (with/without tPA), and post-craniectomy patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2
• RNs are required to titrate drips as ordered by physicians
• Common procedures and equipment include ventricular drains, ventilators, arterial lines, and central lines
• RNs read and interpret telemetry strips using Phillips monitors; telemetry techs are staffed each shift
• Respiratory equipment includes vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen; RNs may troubleshoot these devices
• 3 x 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a) with rotating weekends and holidays
• Floating required, with travelers floating first to any unit including intermediate care (1:3 ratio) and general floors (1:4 ratio)
• Uses Epic EMR system
• Provide comprehensive care to critically ill neuro patients with complex conditions
• Participate in care for mechanically ventilated and post-operative patients
• Collaborate with a supportive team including charge nurses, house supervisors, and patient care techs
• Unit-specific orientation consists of 20 hours (1 eight-hour shift and 1 twelve-hour shift)
• Travelers are required to float to other units as needed
• Rotating holiday coverage is required
• No COVID vaccine requirement for this assignment
• Local candidates within a 50-mile radius will be considered at a local rate
• Negative drug screen is required for all candidates

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
• Current AHA BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of Neuro ICU experience required
• Experience with ventriculostomy, NIH Stroke Scale, ventilators, arterial and central lines, and post-craniectomy care required
• Demonstrated ability to titrate multiple medications and manage acute stroke protocols
• Experience working with Epic EMR preferred
