Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position on the night shift, requiring a WV or compact RN license and proficiency with Epic EMR.

Responsibilities

• Work in an acute care hospital setting on the MedSurg 5S unit
• Primary patient population includes CHF, cardiac, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, ortho, and oncology (chemo administered by perm staff)
• 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend requirement
• Patient ratios are typically 1:5-6 with occasional assignment of up to 7 patients depending on acuity
• Epic charting system is used for documentation
• Unit uses Phillips telemetry with monitor tech support; RNs must read and interpret strips
• Royal blue scrubs required
• Respiratory therapy available 24/7 for CPAP/BiPAP; RT manages vents, RNs perform aerosols and EKGs for non-vented patients
• Required to float to other units as needed, may be assigned med/surg or stepdown type patients when floating to critical care
• Charge nurse and CNA support on every shift
• Traveler-friendly environment with supportive management and efforts to accommodate block scheduling requests
• Holiday coverage required per unit’s rotation schedule
• Strict no false nails policy enforced
• IV team available house-wide during limited hours
• Mandatory royal blue scrubs
• First time travelers are welcome to apply
• Travelers may not work within WVU Medicine for longer than one year without a subsequent two-year break

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg RN experience
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
• Experience with Epic EMR preferred
• Must provide an unexpired driver’s license for consideration
• Comply with 50-mile radius rule; no local travelers accepted
• Candidates with previous employment at any WVU Medicine location must have a 2-year break before reapplying
