Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week night shift Emergency Department position requiring a WI or compact RN license and strong adaptability to flex between ED and inpatient MS units.

Responsibilities

• Acute care hospital Emergency Department with 9 beds and combined ED/Urgent Care setting
• Covers a broad patient population including cardiac, diabetic, stroke, respiratory, wounds, and urgent care cases
• Average ER census is approximately 30 patients per day
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:3-4
• Shift is 7P-7A, three nights per week, with Q3rd weekend and holiday rotation
• All staff—including travelers—must be willing and able to float between the ED and inpatient Medical-Surgical unit, and potentially a nearby ER as census requires
• Cerner charting system, transitioning to Epic
• Use of common drips such as Heparin and Diltiazem
• Bedside triage, with no dedicated triage nurse and no separate holding or psych rooms
• RNs are responsible for IVs, labs, EKGs, intubation assistance, and transport vent monitoring in absence of RT
• Work with an on-site charge RN, 1-2 other RNs, and tech support per shift
• Security is on site weekdays, with panic button and lockdown available at other times
• One shift of unit-based and mandatory orientation included at start
• Any solid color scrubs may be worn
• Candidates residing within 80 miles are considered local and subject to adjusted pay rates
• Must be able to work assigned major winter holidays and cover every third weekend
• All clinicians are required to clock in and out while on assignment

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license required by start date
• Minimum one year of recent Emergency Department experience required; first-time travelers must have at least one year in a Critical Access Hospital or similar setting
• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and PALS (AHA); TNCC, NRP, and ENPC strongly preferred
• Must be comfortable with limited resources and capable of flexing to inpatient Medical-Surgical duties as needed
• Experience with Cerner EMR preferred
• Ability to read own cardiac monitoring strips required
• Must provide two professional references: one from a supervisor and one from a peer or supervisor
• Former staff must have been separated from the facility for at least six months to be eligible
