Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Observation Unit position with Epic experience and a compact RN license required.

Responsibilities

• Position is in a 23-bed Observation Med/Surg unit within a hospital setting
• Provides care for patients with cardiac, neuro, surgical, GI/urology, renal, cellulitis, and detox conditions
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratios: Days 1:4-5, PMs 1:5-6, Nights 1:6-7
• 12-hour day shifts from 6:30 am to 7:00 pm
• Requires work three weekends within each six-week schedule and every other holiday
• First to float within skillset to other campuses within 8-11 miles, with 2-hour notice for cross-campus float
• Epic EMR experience required; charting checkoff class required
• Responsibilities include caring for a diverse mix of observation patients and performing neuro assessments and dysphagia screening
• Opportunity to precept students and new hires due to the teaching hospital environment
• Welcoming team atmosphere with low turnover and strong support for travelers
• Navy blue scrubs required; no hoodies, sweatshirts, or competing health system/agency logos allowed
• COVID-19 vaccination is not required at this time but is subject to change
• Unit manager is highly experienced and oversees units with the lowest turnover in the hospital

Requirements

• Active IN or compact state RN license required
• Current AHA BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum two years of recent Med/Surg experience and at least one travel assignment
• Recent experience with Epic EMR required
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills necessary
• Ability to perform advanced skills including cardiac cath recovery, heparin and insulin drip management, post-surgical care, neuro assessment, indwelling drain management, straight cath/foley care, NG tube insertion, and blood administration
• Must not reside within a 40-mile radius of the facility
