Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry Stepdown position requiring ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications on a Level 1 trauma unit.
Responsibilities
- Work in a Cardiac Telemetry Stepdown unit within an acute hospital setting
- Unit has 18 beds and cares for intermediate care patients and those downgraded from CVICU
- Patient population includes cardiac and vascular cases, with common diagnoses such as CVAs, CHF, and A fib RVR
- Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4, with 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours
- Specialized procedures include titration of drips such as Amio, nitro, nicardipine, epi, and cardizem
- RNs are required to read and interpret telemetry with both hardwired and telemetry box equipment
- Uses Epic EMR system
- 12-hour night shifts (1830-0700), every other weekend required
- Floating required to all same level and lower level of acuity units
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Navy blue scrubs required
- RNs must pass an open book skills exam during orientation and achieve a 90% score to continue
- Orientation includes 1-2 unit-specific shifts tailored to experience
- Charge nurse present on each shift, typically without a patient assignment
- Patient care techs are staffed at a 1:18 ratio for assistance
- Hospitalist and intensivist in-house 24/7, with on-call cardiology after hours
- Equipment includes BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula with basic troubleshooting required by RNs
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas
- Must provide requested RTO up front (7 days or less per 13-week contract); additional RTO not approved
- Returning candidates must not have worked for the health system in the past year
Requirements
- Active NE or compact RN license required at the time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS are required and must be active
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience, with at least 1 year of experience caring for cardiac stepdown or CVU patient populations
- Experience with titration of cardiac drips is required
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
- Driver's license required to confirm residence outside the 50-mile radius
- Candidates may not be current employees (full time, part time, or PRN) of any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and Dignity
- Two professional references required: one supervisor reference from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from the last 3 years
