Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele role in an acute care setting requiring a MI RN license and BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 24-bed Med/Surg Tele unit within an acute care hospital
• Patient population includes medical, surgical, and telemetry patients with common cases such as cellulitis, COPD, GU, pacemakers, sepsis, and post-op ortho
• Small pediatric population may be assigned to travelers with prior experience
• Team nursing model with LPNs and nurse aides present on unit
• Nurse to patient ratios are 5:1 on day shift and 6:1 at 11pm
• Charge nurse carries an assignment and travelers may be asked to serve as relief charge
• Uses Paragon EMR
• RT equipment such as CPAP is present, RT available in ICU 24/7
• 12 hour night shifts (1900-0700), with every other weekend and holiday rotation required
• Potential for call/standby shifts
• Float required to similar units and patient populations
• Travelers may provide relief charge support as requested
• Computer education and unit orientation provided, followed by a precepted shift
• Solid professional scrubs required; no specific color mandated
• Must be comfortable working with minimal onsite support resources
• Hospitalist or intensivist coverage available until 6pm, after which telemedicine is used
• First-time travelers are considered for this position
• Candidates living within 80 miles are considered local and offered adjusted rates
• Former employees must have been separated for at least 6 months to be eligible

Requirements

• Active MI RN license is required by start date
• Current BLS (AHA) certification required; ACLS preferred
• Minimum 1 year recent Med/Surg Telemetry experience in acute care
• Experience with IV starts required and comfort with limited onsite resources
• Basic arrhythmia interpretation skills required
• Experience with Paragon EMR preferred
• Critical Access or Trauma Level 3/4 experience preferred
• Two professional references required: one supervisor and one peer or supervisor
