Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg RN with at least one year of experience, a WV or compact license, and BLS certification for 12-hour day shifts on a hospital acute care unit.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 48-bed acute Med/Surg unit
• Typical patient diagnoses include pneumonia, UTI, altered mental status, GI bleed, alcohol withdrawal, falls, and weakness
• Nurse to patient ratios are 1:5-7 on days and 1:6-8 on nights
• 12-hour day shifts with every other weekend required
• Schedule is prepared by management without self or block scheduling
• Floating may be required to other Med/Surg, MS-Tele, or IMC units for lower acuity patient assignments
• Uses Cerner Soarian EMR
• RN duties include vitals, EKGs, heart monitor application, bathing, feeding, toileting, turning, and positioning
• Respiratory therapists handle all respiratory equipment; RNs monitor only
• Monitor techs read telemetry strips; RNs are not expected to interpret telemetry
• Team support includes CNAs/PCTs (ratio 1:10-12) and charge nurses on each shift
• One day of EMR/computer education and one day with a unit preceptor provided for orientation
• May participate in holiday rotation based on scheduling needs
• Must wear navy blue scrubs
• First-time travelers are accepted
• Previous employees must have a 2-year break from any WVU Medicine location before reapplying as a traveler
• Travel nurses may not work more than one year cumulatively within WVU system without a 2-year break

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg nursing experience
• Current BLS certification required
• Ability to titrate drips such as heparin, bumex, and lasix (no cardiac drips)
• Candidate must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Copy of unexpired driver’s license required for consideration
