Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift PCU position requiring a NM or compact RN license, recent telemetry/progressive care experience, and travel assignment history.
Responsibilities
- Work in a progressive care unit (PCU) with over 18 beds in a hospital setting
- Patient population consists of medically complex, long-term stay patients at the Med/Surg level awaiting community placement
- No direct escalation path to ICU; strong assessment and de-escalation skills required
- 12-hour night shifts, 0.9 FTE with weekends and on-call required as needed
- Floating to other departments or local locations within 20 miles is mandatory
- Epic EMR is used and experience is preferred
- Primary duties include providing direct patient care using the nursing process, administering medications, and documenting according to protocols
- PCU nurses are responsible for assessing and intervening with deteriorating patients due to absence of immediate ICU escalation
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and provide education to patients and families
- May supervise LPNs and assistive personnel as needed
- Charge nurse experience is preferred but not required
- Basic Cardiac Arrhythmia test is administered on first day during orientation; failure to pass leads to contract cancellation
- First-time travelers will not be accepted due to travel assignment requirement
- Scrub color or dress code requirements not specified
Requirements
- Active RN license for New Mexico or compact state required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications from AHA, American Health and Safety, or American Red Cross
- Minimum of two years current experience in a telemetry or progressive care unit with 18 or more beds
- Successful completion of at least one 13-week travel assignment required
- Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) required
- Must pass a Basic Cardiac Arrhythmia (BCA) test on site during orientation; one retake allowed, failure will result in dismissal
- NIHSS certification preferred
- No local candidates; must reside at least 50 miles from facility
- Returning perm staff must wait one year before being considered as a traveler
