Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced PCU RN with NM or compact license and recent progressive care unit experience for a day shift travel assignment.

Responsibilities

• Position is on a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in a hospital setting
• Unit has 18 or more beds and cares for medically complex patients awaiting community placement
• Patient population consists of Med/Surg level patients in a low-turnover, non-acute setting
• Three 12-hour day shifts per week with weekend and on-call/call-back shifts as required
• Floating between departments and nearby locations within 20 miles may be required
• Epic EMR experience is preferred
• Responsibilities include patient assessment, medication administration, care planning, documentation, and collaboration with interdisciplinary team
• High emphasis on ability to recognize and manage decompensating patient conditions due to lack of ICU escalation path
• Supervises LPNs and non-licensed assistive personnel as needed
• Charge nursing experience preferred but not required
• Must successfully complete onsite orientation including BCA testing
• Standard scrub attire required
• Selected travelers must be able to work assigned holidays

Requirements

• Unencumbered NM or compact RN license required
• Minimum of two years current experience in an 18+ bed telemetry or progressive care unit required
• Completed at least one 13-week travel assignment
• BLS and ACLS certifications required from AHA, American Health and Safety, or American Red Cross
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) required
• Must pass a Basic Cardiac Arrhythmia (BCA) exam on first day; one retest allowed
• NIHSS certification preferred
• Team player who is flexible and able to adapt to a fast-paced environment
• No local candidates within a 50-mile radius are eligible
• Former permanent staff must wait one year before being considered for travel roles
