Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical unit in an acute care setting requiring a WV or compact RN license and strong Med/Surg clinical skills.

Responsibilities

• Position is located on a 52-bed Medical Surgical unit with all private rooms
• Work in an acute care hospital environment
• Patient population includes ortho and neuro post-ops, general surgical post-ops, and various medical diagnoses such as COPD, pneumonia, and cellulitis
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:6-7, with most shifts being 1:7
• Utilizes Sunrise (Allscripts) EMR system
• 12-hour day shifts with every other weekend required
• Float to other Med/Surg and Med/Surg/Oncology units as needed; possible float to IMC for Med/Surg overflow only
• Remote telemetry monitoring as needed; RNs may read strips if experienced
• Patients may require care with Bipap/CPAP/High Flow, hemodialysis, and rare medication drips (Heparin, PCAs, Ativan)
• Orientation includes general hospital training and two full shifts on the unit
• Scrub color is navy blue for RNs (tops, bottoms, jackets); no hoodies permitted
• Charge Nurses take a full patient assignment and receive Clinical Assistant support part-time
• Nurse aides (CNAs) are typically present in ratios of 1:10-12
• IV team starts all IVs; RNs assess IV sites but are not responsible for IV insertion
• RT, pharmacy, and hospitalist support are available in-house 24/7
• Required to work assigned holidays per rotation schedule
• Travelers may be floated based on staffing needs but will be assigned appropriate Med/Surg patient populations
• First time travelers are welcome to apply

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required at time of consideration
• Minimum 2 years recent Med/Surg RN experience required
• Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Experience with peritoneal dialysis is highly preferred
• Ability to work 12-hour shifts with rotating weekends and holidays
• Must provide copy of unexpired driver’s license for consideration
• Must reside at least 50 miles from facility; no local travelers accepted
• Previous travelers must have a 2-year break in employment from any WVU Medicine location before reapplying
• Cumulative WVU assignment limit of one year; 2-year break required after one year of service
