Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Telemetry position requiring a compact or VA RN license, BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications, and prior travel RN experience.

Responsibilities

• Position is on a 28-bed Telemetry unit with a monitor tech, charge nurse each shift, and 24/7 nursing supervisor support
• Patient population includes cardiac and neuro cases such as A-fib, NSTEMI/STEMI, CHF, CVA/TIA, various metabolic disorders, cardiac workup, post-cardiac cath, dialysis, AKI, and pulmonary edema
• Care involves managing drips such as Heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, nitro, Dopamine (no titration), and insulin
• Use of specialized lines/devices including TCDs, PICCS, midlines, CBI, and chest tubes
• Oxygen delivery methods include nasal cannula, high flow, and trach
• Typical staffing includes one to two patient care techs based on census
• 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend and holiday required
• Responsibilities include initial and ongoing patient assessment, plan of care development, medication administration, and patient teaching
• Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams and provide clinical management of multisystem conditions
• Must adapt quickly to changing patient conditions and act as a patient safety advocate
• Support staff availability includes a monitor tech, charge nurse, and medic for difficult IV placements
• Pass/fail EKG test required on first day with two attempts and study guides provided
• Holiday and weekend shifts are mandatory
• Epic EMR training is available but not required prior to start

Requirements

• Current VA or compact RN license required
• At least 2 years of recent experience in Telemetry or a related area
• At least 1 year of prior travel RN experience required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
• Must pass a dysrhythmia/EKG exam at orientation
• Cannot be considered if residing within 50 miles of the facility
