Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg RN for a night shift position in a Level I trauma, Magnet hospital in Illinois requiring an active IL RN license and strong clinical skills.
Responsibilities
- Work in a medical-surgical unit within an acute care hospital at a Level I trauma center
- Night shift schedule: 3x12 hour shifts (1845-0715)
- Care for a patient population with an average daily census of 22
- Every other weekend work required
- Float to other units within scope as needed
- Cerner charting used
- Provide comprehensive care for a diverse adult Med/Surg patient population, including trauma, surgical, and complex medical conditions
- Be prepared to act as part of rapid response and emergency care teams as needed
- Work in a Magnet-recognized, team-oriented environment
- Any solid color scrubs are acceptable for this unit
- Orientation includes parking permit registration (no cost)
- Up to 5 days of requested time off permitted under typical circumstances
- First time travelers are not accepted for this position
- Local candidates are accepted
Requirements
- Active IL RN license in hand
- Minimum of 2 years' recent Med/Surg RN experience required
- Current BLS certification required
- Required clinical skills in cardiac monitoring (including remote telemetry and use of rapid response teams), GI case management (colostomy care and feeding tube care), genitourinary/renal management (pre/post hemodialysis, renal failure), IV therapy (including central/PICC/peripheral management and blood administration), medication administration (Heparin, Insulin, PCA), neuro/psych (spinal cord injuries), ortho trauma, and surgical drain management
- Experience with respiratory modalities such as CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, tracheostomy management, and thoracic surgery cases
- Familiarity with wound care, wound vacs, and isolation precautions
- Experience with Cerner EMR preferred

“Management” (yes in quotes bc there isn’t much directive provided) is incredibly cliquey, if you’re on the right side of things it’s great! If you are not, they will speak behind your back to other employees, as they want to be in on all of the supposed tea, without worrying about finding out the truth first.
