Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position requiring a SC or compact RN license and 2 years of PICU experience.
Responsibilities
- Position is in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) within a Level I Trauma Center and teaching hospital
- The unit has 28 beds and cares for pediatric patients ages 0-18 with both medical and surgical diagnoses
- Patient acuity includes ICU and stepdown with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, and 1:3 depending on patient needs
- Common cases involve respiratory compromise, trauma, post-op surgical care, neurology, neurosurgery, and patients requiring ventilatory or cardiac support
- Advanced therapies provided include ECMO, CRRT, renal and peritoneal dialysis, and pediatric palliative care
- Scheduled for 3x12 hour shifts, rotating with primarily nights (7p-7:30a for 2 months, followed by 1 month of days 7a-7:30p)
- Weekend requirement is up to 5 weekend night shifts or 4 weekend day shifts per scheduling period
- Holiday coverage is required if the assignment falls during a holiday period
- Floating within scope may be required to meet facility needs
- Uses Epic for electronic charting
- Providing critical care nursing for pediatric patients, including those needing ventilatory and advanced cardiac support
- Collaborates closely with a multidisciplinary team including RNs, patient care technicians, unit secretaries, respiratory therapists, dietitians, and pharmacists
- First time travelers are welcome to apply
- Previous permanent staff (including PRN) must be separated from the health system for at least 1 year before returning as a traveler
- All requested time off must be submitted with application and is subject to approval based on unit needs
- Local candidates within 60 miles may be considered on a case-by-case basis at a local pay rate
- Parking requires a one-time $20 registration fee for a garage hang tag, with additional fees for other lots
- During hurricane season (June through November), employees may be assigned to emergency response teams
- Completion of facility and unit-specific modules is required prior to start
Requirements
- Active SC or multi-state compact RN license is required
- At least 2 years of recent PICU experience required
- Current BLS and PALS certifications through the American Heart Association
- Experience with ECMO and CRRT is preferred
- SSN and driver’s license required for job consideration
