Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with at least two years' acute care experience, valid NE or compact RN license, and required certifications for a Level 2 Trauma Unit.

Responsibilities

• Position is in an acute care ICU with 33 beds and an average daily census of 16
• Patient population includes adults with trauma, cardiac, overdose, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:2-3 in ICU and typically 1:4 or 1:5 when floating to PCU or MedSurg
• Nurses are required to titrate drips, including cardiac, insulin, and sedation drips
• Assignment involves use of GE monitoring systems and Epic EMR
• RNs are required to read, interpret, and document telemetry strips
• Care setting utilizes ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow, and nasal cannula equipment
• Shift is 12-hour days (06:30–18:30) with every other weekend required
• Floating may be required to PCU or MedSurg at comparable ratios
• A single department-specific orientation shift is provided
• Cannot have been employed by any CommonSpirit facilities (including CHI or Dignity) as full time, part time, or PRN within the past year
• Holiday coverage for at least two holidays during the contract required
• RTO requests of 7 or fewer days must be provided upfront; additional RTO will not be considered
• Artificial nails are prohibited for all patient care staff
• Pass/Fail open book skills exam is required during orientation; a minimum score of 90% is required
• Unit support includes nurse aides and a healthcare support tech available weekdays
• Self-scheduling is available for core staff; travelers are added in based on needs
• Block scheduling is only approved for weekends, and duos desiring the same schedule will not be accommodated
• Applicant must live at least 50 miles from the facility as determined by driver’s license

Requirements

• Active NE or compact RN (NLC) license required and must be in hand before consideration
• Minimum of 2 years of recent ICU experience in an acute care setting
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required and must be in hand before consideration
• Experience with Epic EMR preferred
• Ability to titrate critical drips and manage common ICU devices
• Driver's license required for verification of permanent residence
• Must provide two references: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months and one from a peer or supervisor within the last 3 years
