Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift position requiring a WV or compact RN license and BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 48-bed Med/Surg unit within an acute care setting
• 12-hour night shifts, every other weekend required
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:6-8 on nights
• Common patient conditions include pneumonia, UTI, AMS, GI bleed, alcohol withdrawal, falls, and weakness
• Must be willing to float to other Med/Surg, Med/Surg-Tele, or IMC units for lower acuity patients as needed
• Uses Cerner Soarian for charting
• Monitor techs read telemetry strips; nurses are not required to interpret telemetry
• No call or on-call requirements
• Responsible for titrating certain drips including heparin, bumex, and lasix, but not cardiac drips
• RNs monitor respiratory equipment, with the respiratory team managing administration and maintenance
• Support staff includes patient care techs with a 1:10-12 ratio performing vitals, EKGs, and patient care tasks
• Charge nurse present each shift; may take a patient assignment depending on staffing
• May be included in holiday rotation according to unit guidelines
• No self-scheduling; schedules are created by the manager with consideration for requested time off
• Dress code requires navy blue scrubs for RNs
• One day of EMR/computer orientation and one day with a preceptor provided
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Travelers who have worked within the WVU system must observe a 2-year break before returning as a traveler, and travelers may not work more than one year cumulatively within the system before a 2-year break is required

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required at time of application
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum of 1 year of Med/Surg nursing experience
• Must disclose any licensure issues at time of application
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates not accepted
• Copy of unexpired driver’s license required for consideration
