Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele Infusion/Oncology position with night shifts and titratable drips experience required.

Responsibilities

• Work in an acute care hospital setting on a 27-bed Med/Surg Telemetry Infusion/Oncology unit
• Patient population includes oncology, hematology, general medical, GI bleed, PE/DVT, sepsis, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, and similar cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 on days/evenings and 1:6 on nights, with rare increases to 1:7 if short-staffed
• Responsible for managing and titrating various drips, including insulin, heparin, cardizem, nitro, amiodarone, octreotide, and blood transfusions
• Uses Cerner EMR (transitioning to Epic; Cerner experience preferred but not required)
• Scheduled for 12-hour night shifts, 1900-0730, with every other weekend and holiday required
• First to float within Med/Surg units; may assist outside of unit for observer or tasking needs in 4-hour increments
• No on-call or standby requirements
• Centralized telemetry techs monitor and read cardiac strips; RNs are expected to be telemetry aware
• Charge nurse and house supervisor available on every shift; travelers may be asked to step into charge nurse role if comfortable, especially on nights
• Nurse aides support the unit with ratios of 1:7-9 days/evenings and up to 1:14 overnight
• Respiratory therapy support is available 24/7 for equipment such as CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow O2
• Unit provides a one-day orientation with computer training and a 12-hour floor shift
• Any color scrubs may be worn, but logos from other health systems are not permitted
• Local candidates living within 80 miles are accepted but at a reduced pay rate
• Travelers are expected to clock in and out at the facility

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license required by start date
• Minimum 1 year recent acute care Med/Surg or Telemetry RN experience
• Current BLS certification (AHA) required
• Experience and comfort with complex patients and titrating drips required
• Two professional references required: one from a supervisor and one from a supervisor or peer
• Former employees must have ended employment at least 6 months prior to consideration
