Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift position caring for adult and geriatric patients, with charge and float duties as needed.

Responsibilities

• Work in an inpatient hospital setting on a Medical Surgical unit
• Patient population includes adults and geriatrics
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6
• Responsibilities may include floating to other units and charge duties as needed
• Schedule is night shifts (3x12 hours, 7:00 pm to 7:00 am), with option for 4x12 hour shifts
• Required to work every other weekend
• Must work at least one major holiday: Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, or Christmas Day
• May be asked to serve in a charge nurse capacity when needed
• 30-minute lunch breaks are required and cannot be skipped
• Patient care responsibilities include IV starts, wound care, and infection control procedures
• Open to local candidates who meet the radius rule
• Holiday coverage for at least one of the specified holidays is mandatory

Requirements

• Active AL or compact RN license required
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association required
• Recent experience with IV starts, isolation precautions, wound care, and wound vacs required
• Fit test required prior to start
• Level II trauma experience preferred
• NIHSS certification preferred
• Prior travel nursing experience preferred
• Must reside outside a 60-mile radius to be eligible as a traveler
