Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele Pulmonary position on straight night shifts requiring ACLS, BLS, and a SD or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Position is in an acute care hospital setting within a combined medical surgical and progressive care pulmonary unit
• Unit consists of a 30-bed med/surg area and an 8-bed progressive care unit, with capability to flex up to 41 beds based on census
• Patient population includes pulmonary conditions such as pneumonia, COPD, CHF, COVID-19, pulmonary embolism, and complex respiratory needs
• Shift is straight nights with 12-hour shifts, including every other weekend and holiday
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights in med/surg, and 1:3 in the pulmonary acute IMC
• Use of Epic EMR is required for documentation
• Equipment utilized includes Alaris pumps for IV fluids and Acudose for medications
• Travelers may be required to float to other Med-Surg units and are the first to be reassigned
• Main responsibilities include providing care to patients with acute respiratory and complex medical needs, including management of ventilators, chest tubes, tracheostomies, and moderate sedation monitoring
• Orientation includes 1 day of competency validation and 2 days of unit-based training, including working with a preceptor
• Team culture is supportive, prioritizing safety, quality care, and professional recognition
• Expected to wear navy blue scrubs as part of the dress code
• Must badge in and out at the facility
• Returning employees must have an end date at Sanford Health at least 6 months before consideration
• Holiday coverage is required as part of the shift rotation

Requirements

• Active SD or compact state RN license is required
• Current certifications in BLS and ACLS (AHA) are required
• Minimum of 2 years recent medical-surgical/telemetry RN experience
• Experience in BiPAP, CPAP, heated high flow, oxygen titration, moderate sedation, and cardiac telemetry monitoring is necessary
• Epic EMR experience is required or preferred
