Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position with at least 18 months' experience and a current ACLS and BCLS certification.
Responsibilities
- Work in a mixed acuity PCU/MedSurg unit with a focus on cardiovascular and thoracic surgery patients
- Patient population includes CV surgery, thoracic surgery, cardiology, endocrine, and oncology
- Ratios are 1:5
- May be required to float within scope to meet hospital needs or at affiliate hospitals
- Shifts are 12 hours, either 3 or 4 shifts per week, including every other weekend on night shift (19:00-07:30)
- Procedures may include post-cardiac surgery care, TAVI/TAVR, arterial line management, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips, and central/PICC line management
- Telemetry monitoring required
- Uses Cerner EMR
- First-time travelers accepted
- Previous charge nurse experience is preferred
- Must be comfortable caring for post-cardiac surgery and ventilated patients
- Care for patients with advanced cardiovascular procedures and devices preferred
- All rooms have overhead lifts for patient safety
- Dress code requires black bottoms and red tops
- Must work at least 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Local candidates not accepted for this position
- Perm or PRN staff must have a 12-month gap before returning as a traveler
- Free parking is available for staff
Requirements
- Active IN or Compact RN license required by start
- Minimum 18 months of PCU or relevant acute care RN experience
- Current ACLS and BCLS certifications required; NIH Stroke Scale certification preferred
- Must be a graduate of an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
- Experience with interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required
- Cerner EMR experience required or willingness to learn
