Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a Family Birthing Center position requiring a California RN license and multiple advanced certifications.

Responsibilities

• Work in an acute care Family Birthing Center providing care in Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and OB
• Handles approximately 45 deliveries per month including standard L&D, term, preterm, couplets, and general GYN cases
• Labor & Delivery nurse to patient ratios are 1:2 or 1:1 during active delivery; Mother-Baby is 1:4 for couplets
• 12-hour night shifts from 1845 to 0715 with schedules posted six weeks in advance; every other weekend required
• No floating outside the Family Birthing Center; coverage limited to L&D or Mother-Baby
• Cerner EMR is used on the unit
• Scrubs are provided
• Primary responsibilities include providing comprehensive nursing care to mothers and infants during labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn care
• Travelers are required to rotate holiday coverage with core staff and must be available for two of the three major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's
• Orientation includes 2-3 days on the unit with a preceptor
• Charge RNs are available but may not take a patient assignment, and no nurse aides are present on the unit
• Candidates must be comfortable working independently and responding to emergencies with limited night resources
• Report is conducted at the bedside
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
• Minimum 2 years recent Labor & Delivery nursing experience required
• Current certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS, NRP, STABLE, and AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM)
• Must provide two professional references, including one supervisor reference from the last 12 months and one additional supervisor or peer reference from the last 3 years
• Must be able to pass unit-specific skills testing including sterile technique and clinical exams during orientation
• Must not have worked directly for any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year
