Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (Stepdown) position requiring a NE or compact RN license and strong telemetry and drip titration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a hospital Progressive Care Unit (Stepdown) with an acute care setting
  • 33-bed unit serving young adult through geriatric patients with complex medical issues including sepsis, STEMI, CHF, chest pain, COVID, stroke, renal failure, COPD, and DKA
  • Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-5
  • RNs are required to titrate drips such as Heparin, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitroglycerin, IV antibiotics, and Insulin
  • Use of BiPAP and Airvo respiratory equipment is expected
  • RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips; telemetry monitors are present
  • Epic EMR is used in this unit
  • 12-hour day shifts (0630-1900) with every other weekend required
  • Travelers may be scheduled by unit schedulers and may float to MedSurg, Inpatient Rehab, or Skilled Care units as needed
  • Responsibilities include managing busy patient flow, frequent admissions and discharges, and performing bedside report and hourly rounding
  • Support from charge nurses and CNAs is available, with CNAs assigned at a 1:10 ratio based on unit census
  • Holiday coverage is required as needed to meet unit needs
  • Navy blue scrubs required for RNs
  • Unit orientation consists of one week classroom training followed by two 12-hour shifts on the floor
  • Pass/fail open book skills exam is required during orientation with a minimum 90% to proceed
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility for eligibility
  • RTO (time off) must be submitted upfront and should not exceed 7 days per 13-week contract
  • A strong sense of teamwork and a positive, engaged attitude are key for success on this unit

Requirements

  • Active NE or compact RN license required at the time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent RN experience required
  • Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) are required
  • Driver’s license required at the time of consideration to verify compliance with a 50-mile radius rule
  • Candidates must not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Artificial nails not permitted in patient care departments
