Job Description

American Traveler is hiring a PICU RN with a valid IL RN license and pediatric ventilator care experience for a unique inpatient unit.

Responsibilities

• Position is within a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in a children's hospital
• Single unit with 39 beds serving all pediatric specialties
• Patient population ranges from 2 weeks to 18 years, with 50-60% technology dependence including vents, trachs, and G tubes
• Patient ratios are typically 1:3-4
• Experience with a 1:4 ratio required
• Candidates must be available to work every other weekend
• Shifts are day (3x12 hours), typically 7:00 to 19:00
• Floating within scope may be required to meet facility needs
• Block scheduling may be accommodated
• Meditech is used for charting and EMR documentation
• No on-call requirements
• Inpatient unit specializes in caring for children with chronic illness and high technology dependence
• No drips, surgical, or transitional patients on the unit
• Team members are encouraged to wear neat, clean scrubs with pediatric themes welcomed
• Free parking available on site, shared with public due to park location
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this role
• Local candidates are accepted at the same rate as travelers
• All approved time-off requests must be included in the contract before the start date; additional time off cannot be added after start

Requirements

• Active IL RN license in hand required (compact licenses not accepted)
• Minimum of 2 years pediatric nursing experience required
• Current BCLS and PALS certifications required
• Experience with ventilators, tracheostomies, and G tubes required
• Experience with Meditech EMR required
• Candidates must have prior experience with a 1:4 nurse to patient ratio
• Pending IL license considered only if active upon start
• Flu vaccination required unless approved for medical or religious exemption
