Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) role requiring IN or compact licensure, with strong PCU and MedSurg skills.
Responsibilities
- Work in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with flex MedSurg and step-down patient populations
- Unit cares for CV surgery, thoracic surgery, cardiology, endocrine, and oncology patients
- Patient assignment ratios are 1:5
- Required to float within the hospital or to affiliate hospitals as needed
- Must be comfortable with both PCU and MedSurg patient acuity and duties
- Day shift (4x12 hours, 7:00-19:30) or three 12-hour shifts per week available
- Every other weekend shift is required
- Cerner EMR system is used and prior experience is required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to a mixed acuity cardiac and medical-surgical patient population
- All patient rooms are private and equipped with overhead lifts and telemetry
- Black bottoms and red tops are the required scrub colors
- Free parking is available onsite
- Must be willing to float within scope to meet facility needs
- First time travelers are accepted
- Candidates must work two out of three major holidays; five days or fewer of requested time off (RTO) can be auto-approved
- Returning former employees must have a 12-month break in service as perm or PRN staff before being considered
- Must not be a local candidate as defined by the facility's role eligibility rules
Requirements
- Active IN or Compact RN license required (pending accepted with license in hand before start)
- Minimum 18 months of recent PCU or MedSurg nursing experience required
- Current certifications: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BCLS), both AHA or RQI accepted
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification preferred but not required
- Degree from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program required
- Experience required with interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, post-cardiac surgery patients, transcatheter aortic procedures (TAVI/TAVR), arterial line management, blood product administration, central/PICC line care, and titrating cardiac/vasoactive drips
- Additional preferred experience: intra-aortic balloon pump, cardiac cath/intervention, sheath removal, ventricular assist devices, and ventilator management
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Cerner charting experience required
- Locals not accepted for this role
