Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Med/Surg-Oncology position requiring ONC certification and chemo administration skills.
Responsibilities
- Work on a Medical Surgical unit with a focus on patients with an oncology history
- Patient population includes general med/surg and oncology diagnoses such as AKI, sepsis, cancer, and administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6, with higher ratios possible during increased census
- Night shifts are 3x12 hours from 18:45 to 7:15
- Every other weekend is required
- Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations, including inpatient holding in the ED
- Call may be required if called off on a prescheduled shift
- PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR are used for medication, documentation, and communication
- Primary responsibilities include providing nursing care to a diverse med/surg and oncology population and administering chemotherapy as needed
- Contract staff may be assigned to Storm or Hurricane Team responsibilities and required to report during catastrophic events
- Contract staff may be preassigned to different units as needed for coverage
- Attendance to monthly staff meetings is expected
- Unit orientation is provided for 24 hours (2 shifts)
- Navy blue and white scrubs are required
- No RTO is permitted after booking; call-offs may result in cancellation or DNR
- First time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license
- Minimum 2 years of inpatient Med/Surg RN experience
- ONC certification required
- Must be able to administer chemotherapy (IV, PO, or injection)
- Current BLS certification
- Experience with colostomy care, accessing ports, blood product administration, central and peripheral line management, PICC, heparin, insulin, surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, and wound vac
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Experience with EPIC required
- Charge nurse experience and OCN preferred
- CPI certification preferred
