Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with TNCC certification for day shifts in a high-acuity, mixed patient population.
Responsibilities
- Work in a mixed ICU with medical, surgical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma patients
- Unit consists of 39 beds divided into pods, with MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU populations
- Patient ratios are typically 1:1 or 1:2, rarely 1:3 based on acuity
- 12-hour day shifts with a 48-hour workweek
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No call requirements
- Floating may occur to any adult floor, including Med/Surg/Tele units with a 1:4 ratio if overstaffed
- Epic EMR is utilized and experience is required
- Unit uses Alaris pumps (switching to Baxter) and Omnicell
- Deliver intensive care to patients with a wide range of complex diagnoses including heavy trauma, ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, post-surgical, COVID, and multi-system trauma
- Do not care for fresh open heart patients unless qualified and approved
- Support staff includes 1-2 CNAs per unit, a mobility aide, resource nurse (staffing-dependent), 2 charge RNs, 24/7 RT, and intensivist coverage
- Hospital orientation and up to 20 hours of unit-specific orientation provided
- Navy scrubs required
- No RTO allowed during holidays or during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks in August)
- Free parking is available on site
- This is a traveler-friendly environment with strong team support
- Local candidates within 100 miles are not eligible for this position
Requirements
- Active SD or compact RN license required
- Completion of an approved nursing education program
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience (excluding travel) highly preferred; 1.5 years considered with significant additional RN experience
- Current BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications required (TNCC must be obtained prior to arrival if not already held)
- At least one prior travel assignment required (no first-time travelers)
- Cardiac ICU experience, including CABG/TAVR post-op, strongly preferred but not required
- Comfortable working 48 hours per week
- Experience with Epic charting required
- Experience with IV medications (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics), hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, telemetry, and critical care assessment required
- Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT is strongly preferred
- Must reside at least 100 miles from any facility in the health system
- Permanent staff must be separated for at least 1 year before returning as a traveler
