Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Stepdown position requiring an active IL RN license and recent vents, trach, and G-tube experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a single pediatric stepdown unit with 39 beds serving patients aged 2 weeks to 18 years
  • Patient population includes children with chronic illness, many with technology dependence such as ventilators and tracheostomies
  • Usual nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3-4
  • Ventilator, trach, and G-tube care are core clinical components
  • Uses Meditech for charting; prior Meditech experience is required
  • Schedule is day shifts, 3x12 hours (7:00-19:00)
  • Every other weekend is required
  • Floating within scope to unit needs is required
  • Block scheduling may be accommodated
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Locals are accepted at the same rate as travelers
  • Unit provides acute care for chronically ill pediatric patients; no drips, surgical, or transitional patients
  • 50-60% of patients require some form of technological support
  • Neat and clean scrubs required; any color allowed with pediatric-themed attire encouraged
  • Free parking is available, though lots are shared with the public
  • Requests for time off must be included and approved before the start of the contract; no additional RTO will be granted after the contract begins
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this position

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license is required at time of consideration; compact RN licenses are not accepted
  • BCLS and PALS certifications are required
  • Minimum of 2 years recent pediatric stepdown or PICU experience
  • Experience caring for patients on vents, with trachs, and G-tubes is required
  • Experience handling a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Meditech EMR experience is required
  • Flu vaccination required; medical and religious exemptions are accepted
