Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical float position, requiring PCU experience and team nursing skills.
Responsibilities
- Work in an acuity-adaptable Medical Surgical boarding unit within a hospital setting
- Patients may require MS, PCU, stepdown, or ICU level care, with ratios typically 1:5-6 depending on acuity and census
- Unit size varies, often 4 beds but may be flexed to 8-10 beds based on need
- Team nursing model is used, working collaboratively with LPNs and CNAs as staffing requires
- Requires floating to other inpatient PCU units and potentially other hospital or affiliate locations as needed
- Candidates must be comfortable with Cerner EMR, which is required
- Shift options include 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts, predominantly days, with every other weekend required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Role requires flexibility and adaptability to care for patients across a range of acuity levels from MS to ICU
- Primary responsibilities include caring for boarded patients from the ED until discharge or transfer
- Must be comfortable working within a team nursing structure, delegating tasks as appropriate
- All travelers may float within the hospital or to affiliate hospitals as needed
- Candidates must work two out of three major holidays during the contract
- Up to five days of requested time off can be auto-approved
- Scrubs or dress code requirements were not specified
Requirements
- Active IN or compact RN license in hand prior to start
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications (AHA or RQI accepted)
- Minimum of 2 years recent Med/Surg and PCU experience required
- Experience using Cerner EMR required
- Graduate of an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
- First time travelers are eligible to apply
- Local candidates are not accepted for this position
- Previous permanent or PRN employees must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler
