Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position requiring a NE or compact RN license and critical care certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Position based in a 35-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within an acute care hospital
  • Stepdown setting specializing in adult and geriatric patients with cardiac, nephrology, stroke, diabetes, and continuous EEG cases
  • Patient ratios are 1:4-5
  • Night shifts are 12 hours (1830-0700), every other weekend required
  • Uses Epic for charting; previous Epic experience preferred
  • Required to float to medical, ICU, or rehab floors as needed
  • Titration of drips including Cardizem, beta blockers, and seizure medications is part of the assignment
  • No call or standby required
  • Charge nurse available each shift; patient care techs support at a 1:10 or 2:20 ratio
  • Provide advanced care including titration of cardiac and seizure drips to adult and geriatric patients
  • First week consists of onboarding and skills review with 1-2 days of unit-specific orientation
  • Must pass a skills exam with a minimum score of 90% during orientation
  • Artificial nails are prohibited for all staff in patient care; compliance is required to maintain employment
  • Supportive team environment with a charge nurse on each shift and access to patient care tech assistance
  • Holiday coverage required every third holiday
  • Required time off (RTO) must be requested up front and is limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved

Requirements

  • Active NE or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum of 2 years RN experience, preferably in a PCU, stepdown, or similar acute setting
  • Current AHA BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Experience with titratable drips and care of adult/geriatric progressive care patient populations required
  • Driver’s license required to verify residence outside a 50-mile radius from the facility
  • Candidates may not have worked as a full time, part time, or PRN employee for any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the last year
