Job Description
American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg Tele RN with oncology experience and an active OH or compact license for a busy surgical oncology unit.
Responsibilities
- Work in a mixed acuity surgical oncology unit caring for both PCU and Med Surg patients
- Provide care to adult and geriatric patients
- Typical diagnoses include surgical oncology (breast, thyroid, melanoma), hepatobiliary, colorectal, and reconstructive plastic cases
- Common procedures include chemotherapy, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, and management of oncologic emergencies
- Highly active floor with staffing ratios targeted at 1:4, up to 1:5
- Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 19:00–07:30), day/night shift option available
- Uses Epic for charting and EMR documentation
- No blocked or set scheduling; self-scheduling with requests considered
- Weekend shifts are variable based on unit needs
- Responsibilities include administering chemotherapy, managing blood transfusions, insulin and heparin drips, and responding to oncologic emergencies
- Emphasis on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention for patients
- First week of orientation is dayshift, Monday to Friday; second week consists of 36 hours on-unit with a preceptor
- Variable team structure with all permanent staff PCU trained
- Day/night shift options may be available depending on unit needs
Requirements
- Active OH or compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg Tele experience
- Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS required
- ONS Chemotherapy certification is preferred
- Experience with Epic charting is required
