Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit night shift position requiring trauma level I experience and flexibility to work weekends.
Responsibilities
- Work in a hospital-based Progressive Care Unit specializing in cardiovascular patient care
- Patient population includes those with heart failure, post-MI, pulmonary hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, COPD, congenital heart defects, and infective endocarditis
- Care for post-cath lab patients and those awaiting LVAD placement or transplant
- Staffing ratio is 1:4
- Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 19:00-07:30)
- Must be flexible to work 50% of weekends during contract as unit needs require
- Floating may be required within hospital or to affiliate hospitals, including various acuity levels (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU)
- Uses Cerner EMR system; Cerner experience required
- May be assigned charge nurse responsibilities with unit training as operationally needed
- Potential assignment of precepting or having nursing students shadow during shifts
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Up to 5 days of requested time off can be auto-approved in advance
- Call-ins for missed shifts must be made up as per facility policies
- Travelers are supported by teaching facility resources and will be provided training and orientation
Requirements
- Active IN or Compact RN license in hand prior to start
- Graduation from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program is required
- Minimum of 2 years recent RN experience in similar setting
- Prior trauma level I experience required
- Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
- Strong skills in cardiac PCU, drips, post cath lab care, IV starts, and sheath pulls
- Experience with conscious sedation and telemetry preferred
- First-time travelers are accepted
- Locals are not accepted for this position
- Returning employees must be separated for at least 12 months before consideration
