Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical-Surgical Acute Care position in Illinois with 12-hour night shifts and a strong teamwork environment.
Responsibilities
- Work in an 18-bed adult medical-surgical acute care unit within an acute care hospital
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights
- Patient population includes general medical cases with various diagnoses
- RNs titrate Heparin drips as needed
- Remote telemetry monitoring via house-wide telemetry department, with Phillips monitors on the unit
- RNs may care for patients on oxygen (up to 6L NC) and stable BiPAP/CPAP at night or as needed
- 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a) with shift report at 7a and 7p
- Every other weekend required for night shifts (Friday and Saturday)
- Holiday rotation per hospital policy
- Floating to other units may be required, with travelers floated first
- No on-call required
- EMR is Epic
- Travel RNs typically receive a 12-hour orientation shift with a unit preceptor
- Staff must provide their own scrubs in any color except pediatric prints
- Hospitalist, intensivist, pharmacy, and respiratory therapy support are available 24/7
- Charge RN and house supervisor present 24/7, with charge RN taking assignments as needed
- Two patient care techs per shift support nursing staff, with a 9:1 ratio when unit is full
- Holiday coverage is expected according to hospital policy
- No COVID vaccine required for employment
- Candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles are eligible for a local rate
Requirements
- Active Illinois RN license required for consideration
- Current BLS certification from AHA required
- Minimum of 1 year of recent hospital RN experience preferred
- Experience titrating Heparin drips required
- Epic charting experience preferred
