Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Neuro position requiring a NE or compact license, BLS, and NIHSS certification.

Responsibilities

• Work in an acute care hospital on the Med/Surg Neuro unit (4th Floor North), Level 1 trauma center
• Unit has 25 beds and a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6
• Patient population includes neuro patients, med/surg telemetry, post-neurosurgery, strokes, and typical medical-surgical cases such as joint replacements, fractures, GI bleeds, and pneumonia
• Required to titrate Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine drips; use PCA pumps
• Tele techs interpret strips but RNs need telemetry awareness
• Uses Epic EMR
• Day shift position (12-hour shifts: 0630-1900), with every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage includes 2-3 holidays between Thanksgiving and New Year's
• Floating required to other med/surg units or areas with similar patient populations
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Unit provides 2 days of orientation
• Main responsibilities include caring for a diverse medical-surgical and neuro patient population, frequent admissions and discharges, and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team
• Focus on hourly rounding and responsiveness
• Mechanical lifts available in every other room
• Charge nurse present on each shift and nurse aides/patient care tech support provided
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas
• Pass/Fail open-book exam on orientation, requiring at least 90% to continue employment
• First-time travelers may be considered
• No RT equipment troubleshooting required

Requirements

• Active NE or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of recent acute Med/Surg experience required
• Current certifications: BLS (AHA) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) required
• No prior full-time, part-time, or PRN employment with facilities associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, determined by driver’s license
• No disciplinary or legal license or background issues permitted
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from the past 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from the past 3 years
