Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU Float position requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience and proficiency with both ICU and telemetry patients.

Responsibilities

  • Work in an acute care ICU setting with frequent floating to MedSurg/Tele and ED Holds
  • Patient ratios include 1:2 for ICU, 1:3 for MedSurg, and 1:4 for Tele, with a mixed acuity patient population
  • Handle a variety of cases including vasoactive drips, ventilated patients, cardiac, neuro, sepsis, pulmonary, renal, and endocrine conditions
  • Perform and assist with specialized critical care procedures such as bronchoscopy, central line insertion, intubation, thoracentesis, paracentesis, and more
  • Uses Cerner for EMR documentation and Phillips equipment for telemetry monitoring
  • 12-hour night shifts with four weekend shifts required every four weeks
  • Holiday coverage required for three out of six main holidays
  • Floating to other ICU or MedSurg/Tele units, including possible float to MICU at another campus
  • Floor-specific orientation includes two shifts; team support from a charge nurse and one tech per shift
  • Expected to be flexible and willing to float between different units based on census and acuity needs
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate strong teamwork, often as the only RN on the unit with support from a resource nurse and tech
  • Must maintain a positive attitude and collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams
  • SIMs Lab on day one is strict pass/fail and failure may result in immediate ineligibility
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Travelers must have natural hair color per unit policy
  • Access to hospitalist and rapid response team support during the day and night
  • First-time travelers are not explicitly excluded; strong general ICU experience is emphasized
  • Must meet vaccination and testing requirements as specified by the facility

Requirements

  • Active AZ or Compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; copies must be submitted
  • Minimum of 2 years recent ICU experience as an RN
  • Proficiency in caring for telemetry and MedSurg patients as well as ICU-level patients
  • Must pass a Basic Dysrhythmia Exam before assignment; two attempts maximum
  • Ability to interpret EKGs required
  • Must successfully complete a pass/fail SIMs Lab on day one covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
  • Must provide a copy of driver's license for address verification; 50-mile radius rule applies
  • Two professional references required, one from a supervisor within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years
  • May not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year
