Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level II ICU position in California, requiring strong critical care skills and active CA RN licensure.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 20-bed ICU within an acute care hospital setting
• Patient population includes sepsis, DKA, hyperglycemia, COPD, GI bleeds, post-operative surgery recovery, and cardiac services
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2 in ICU; floats may have up to 4-5 patients on other units
• Unit uses Cerner EMR; must be comfortable reading and interpreting GE telemetry strips
• 12-hour day shifts with two weekends per four weeks and coverage for two out of three major holidays
• Frequent floating to med-surg telemetry and tele units; travelers are first to float
• Floor orientation includes two shifts in ICU and one on another unit
• Charge nurse present on each shift does not take patients but serves as a resource
• Must be comfortable managing ventilators and the ABCDE bundle
• No nurse aides available; strong ability to independently manage patient care is required
• RT and pharmacy support are available 24/7
• Orientation includes specific unit and float training
• Must wear navy scrubs while on duty
• Holiday coverage is required as per schedule
• Candidates must pass basic or advanced dysrhythmia exam prior to start
• Sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes will be assessed upon orientation
• First-time travelers will be considered for this assignment

Requirements

• Active and unencumbered CA RN license required at the time of consideration
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications are required
• Minimum of 2 years of recent ICU experience
• Proficiency with IV insertion and management is required
• Experience with Cerner EMR and reading ECG strips required
• Basic critical care course and CCRN certification are preferred
• Must provide two professional references: one supervisor from the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the past 3 years, with dates of employment and rehire eligibility
• Copy of driver’s license required for consideration
• Candidates with previous direct employment with the associated health system within the past year are not eligible
