Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift ICU position requiring neuro and trauma experience and an active ME or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a hospital-based Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a Level II Trauma Center
  • 26-bed ICU including negative pressure rooms
  • Patient population includes medical, surgical, trauma, neuro, ortho, and interventional cases
  • Experience with ICP monitoring, external ventricular drains (EVD), spinal precautions, DKA, multisystem trauma, sepsis, ARDS, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, stroke
  • Typical ratio is 1:2 based on acuity; may have a third patient during transition
  • Uses Cerner EMR system (preferred experience), Alaris, and Pyxis equipment
  • 12-hour night shifts (7P-7A); every other weekend required
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating may occur to Cardiac ICU, Cardiac Stepdown, Medical Stepdown, or PICU if experienced
  • Primary duties include comprehensive ICU nursing care for diverse and complex patient populations
  • Team includes unassigned charge nurse, 24/7 resource nurse/house supervisor, RT, hospitalist, intensivist, trauma surgery team, and weekday PT/OT
  • General hospital orientation is followed by one unit-based shift
  • Holiday coverage varies by need; time off requires manager approval
  • Solid color professional scrubs required
  • Free designated parking available
  • Influenza vaccination required for all starts from 9/30/2024 onward; medical exemptions must be pre-approved
  • First-time travelers will be considered for this position
  • Travel pairs will not be placed in the same position

Requirements

  • Active ME or compact RN license
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required; at least 1 year in specialty
  • Neuro and trauma experience required, including EVD and ICP monitoring
  • Ventilator management, critical care drips, drain management, stroke experience, hemodynamic lines (A-lines/CVP), cardiac rhythm recognition, chest tubes, and tracheostomy care required
  • Cerner EMR experience preferred
  • PALS certification preferred; PICU experience is a plus
  • Must reside 100+ miles south/southwest of Bangor, ME; special case-by-case approval required for those 100+ miles north
  • No previous permanent employment with any Northern Light Health hospital
