Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a high-acuity, mixed ICU setting with a 48-hour per week night shift requirement and mandatory TNCC certification.
Responsibilities
- Work in a large, mixed ICU (MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU) with 39 beds
- Care for a diverse patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases
- Patient diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, s/p cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma
- RN-to-patient ratios typically 1:1 or 1:2 depending on acuity, with 1:3 on rare occasions
- Required to work 12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week
- Weekend rotation every other weekend (not guaranteed)
- Floating may occur to any adult floor, including MedSurg/Tele (ratio 1:4), though not common
- Uses Epic charting system; Epic experience required
- Utilizes Alaris pumps (switching to Baxter) and Omnicell
- No on-call responsibilities
- Responsible for management of patients with high acuity and trauma diagnoses
- May care for post-cardiac surgery patients (CABG/TAVR) during the first 24–48 hours post-op
- All ICU RNs may be expected to float to the Emergency Department if needed
- Support structure includes nurse aides, charge RNs, phlebotomy for peripheral draws, resource nurses based on staffing, and 24/7 respiratory therapy support
- 3 intensivists on days, 2 on nights, and an APP support on nights
- Hospital and unit orientation includes one 12-hour and one 8-hour shift
- Navy scrubs required
- Free parking available
- No time off permitted during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks in August)
- Unit welcomes returning travelers, but not local candidates within 100 miles
Requirements
- Active SD or compact RN license required
- BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications required (TNCC must be obtained before arrival if not currently held)
- Minimum of 2 years ICU experience excluding travel preferred; may consider 1.5 years ICU experience with additional strong RN background
- At least one prior travel assignment required; first-time travelers will not be considered
- Completion of an accredited nursing education program
- Experience with ventilator management, IV vasoactive medications, hemodynamic lines, proning, and telemetry required
- Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
- Must be comfortable working 48-hour weeks
- Applicants must reside over 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
- Permanent staff must wait one year before returning as a traveler
