Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg PCU Telemetry position on a Neuro Trauma unit, requiring at least two years of recent specialty experience and a WI or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 28-bed acute care Neuro Trauma unit with telemetry and progressive care patients
• Patient population includes strokes, seizures, Guillain-Barre, myasthenia gravis, spinal injuries, trauma/orthopedic injuries, and other neuro and trauma cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights, based on acuity
• Common procedures include titrating drips such as Heparin, Nitro, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, 3% saline, and Insulin
• Ventilators, trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, Vapotherm, and EtCO2 equipment used; RT support available
• Central telemetry monitoring system is used in a separate area
• 12-hour night shifts (7p-7:30a), with every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday required
• Holiday coverage is typically required for two out of three winter holidays, then every other holiday as assigned
• Floating to sister med/surg units with six different specialties may be required
• Cerner EMR is used, transitioning to Epic
• Responsibilities include managing complex neuro trauma and medical surgical patients requiring advanced monitoring and specialized interventions
• Charge nurses and nurse aides provide team support on both day and night shifts
• Orientation includes one general shift and one preceptor-led shift
• Solid color scrubs are required
• First time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates who previously worked at the facility must have ended employment at least six months before consideration
• Local candidates within 80 miles are accepted with adjusted pay rates
• No on-call schedule required
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility

Requirements

• Active WI or compact state RN license required by start date
• BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum two years of MS, PCU, or ICU experience within the last year
• Experience titrating drips is required
• Strongly prefer experience with home trach/vent care; willingness to learn vent care required
• Two professional references required, including one from a supervisor and one from a peer or supervisor
