Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Operating Room RN with at least three years of acute care OR experience and a WV or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Position based in the main Operating Room of an acute care hospital
• Average of 28 surgical cases per day, including a high volume of neuro spine, total joints, open fractures, general, and ENT cases
• OR has 14 suites with 1:1 RN to patient ratio
• Primarily day shifts, 10 hours each, Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM
• Includes weekday and weekend on-call rotation, as well as occasional holiday call as needed
• One weekend day on-call per month and one weeknight on-call required
• Call response time is 20 minutes; if farther, must remain onsite while on call
• Potential to float to the outpatient surgery center as needed
• Epic EMR system used in the department
• Block scheduling may be considered to meet unit needs
• Scrubs are provided
• Main responsibilities include circulating in a broad range of surgical cases (except open heart and vascular)
• Charge nurse support available 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM; charge nurse may circulate as needed
• No self-scheduling for travelers; schedule set by the unit
• Three-shift unit orientation provided on arrival
• Unit maintains a staffing ratio of two OR techs to one RN, with OR techs responsible for room turnover
• Must be able to respond quickly to on-call situations due to the 20-minute response requirement
• Returning travelers or former staff must have been away from any WVU Medicine location for at least two years
• No local candidates; must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
• Holiday coverage and call may be required on an as-needed basis
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this assignment

Requirements

• Active WV or compact state RN license required
• Current certifications in BLS (AHA), ACLS, and PALS required
• Minimum three years of recent OR nursing experience in an acute care hospital
• At least two to three previous travel assignments required
• Experience with orthopedic and neuro surgical cases preferred
• Experience with Epic EMR preferred
• Must provide an unexpired driver’s license with address outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
