Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-acuity Oncology Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position with night shifts and advanced telemetry responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Work in a 36-bed Oncology PCU with a focus on high-acuity adult patients and rare pediatric cases
- Patient populations include solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology cases
- The unit covers both progressive care and a small number of med surg beds
- Staffing ratios are typically 1:4-5 for Med Surg Telemetry and 1:3 for PCU
- Night shifts consist of three 12-hour shifts per week, from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
- Unit specialized in infection prevention and patient fall protocols
- Uses GE B450 monitors, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, bladder scanners, and PCA pumps
- First week includes Monday to Friday dayshift orientation; second week provides 36 hours on-unit orientation with a preceptor
- Required to float to units with equivalent or lower acuity
- Duties include advanced care for oncology patients and managing complex patient needs
- Responsibilities involve interpretation of dysrhythmias, titrating drips, chest tube and airway management, and infection prevention
- Opportunities for professional growth and flexible self-scheduled shift requests are offered
- All candidates will participate in a structured orientation program with preceptor support
- Scrub requirements and holiday expectations will be discussed during orientation
- First-time travelers may be considered
- No minimum break between assignments required except for Sterile Processing Techs
Requirements
- Active OH or compact RN license required
- Current certifications in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Two years of high-acuity PCU experience required
- Experience with telemetry equipment and advanced monitoring required
- Skills in central and peripheral line care, blood product administration, port access, feeding tube care, starting IVs, heparin protocols, PCA, cardiac drips, respiratory support (CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC), ABG interpretation, trach management, and responding to rapid response calls
- Oncology experience preferred, but not required
- Previous travel experience preferred
