Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Telemetry/ICU night position in a combined SCU/Telemetry unit requiring at least 2 years of recent experience and a WV or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 10-bed SCU/Telemetry unit (5 ICU and 5 Telemetry beds) within an acute care setting
• Patient ratios range from 1:3-5 depending on acuity
• Common patient population includes vented, surgical, trauma, COPD, COVID, and various critical care cases
• Shifts are 12 hours, 7:00 pm – 7:00 am with block scheduling possible, including 4 weekend shifts every 4 weeks and rotating holidays
• Floating to MedSurg with a full assignment may occur, but is rare
• Uses Phillips Cardiac Monitors and Epic EMR
• Ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, high-flow oxygen, and critical drips are managed on this unit
• Monitor techs support the ICU at the nurses station and respiratory therapy is available 24/7
• Orientation includes one unit shift with a preceptor
• Responsibilities include comprehensive monitoring and care of critical care and telemetry patients with diverse diagnoses
• No charge nurse is currently assigned, but support is provided by a house supervisor and 24/7 respiratory therapy
• Floor attire is navy blue scrubs, with navy, grey, or black jackets; hair must be a natural color and tattoos must be covered if excessive or distasteful
• Block schedules may be accommodated to align with unit needs, but self-scheduling is not permitted
• Candidates must demonstrate a positive attitude and willingness to work variable schedules as needed
• Current travelers and prior staff may not work at any WVU facility for more than a cumulative year without a 2-year break

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience in a similar setting
• BLS and ACLS (AHA) required, PALS required, NIHSS preferred
• EPIC charting and Phillips Cardiac Monitor experience preferred
• COVID-19 vaccination required, or approved exemption
• Must live outside a 50-mile radius from the facility
• Must have a valid, unexpired driver’s license
• Must pass required EKG testing for ICU/Stepdown consideration
• Previous permanent staff or travelers must have a 2-year break from the facility before reapplying
