Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU/telemetry position on a cardio-pulmonary unit with Cerner EMR and rotating weekend requirements.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 32-bed mixed PCU and MedSurg cardio-pulmonary unit in a teaching hospital
• Patient population includes cardiac medical, valve replacement, COPD, CHF, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer, lung transplant (pre/post), trach-to-vent, neurodegenerative diseases requiring trach-to-vent, trauma (cervical spinal fx) requiring trach-to-vent, flu, TB, and COVID-19
• PCU assignments are typically 1:4, MedSurg 1:5-6, with possible mixed MedSurg/PCU assignments of 4-5 patients
• Day shift schedule: three 12-hour shifts, 7:00-19:30
• Floating required within the hospital and to affiliate facilities, including to Med-Surg, PCU, and ICU levels
• Uses Cerner EMR; experience with Cerner required
• Every other weekend required, with potential for consecutive weekends based on need
• Call coverage not specified; charge nurse duties may be assigned as needed with training
• Nurses may be assigned precepting responsibilities and may work with students or observers during their assignment
• Support and training provided for charge nurse coverage as required by operational needs
• RTO policy allows up to 5 days of requested time off to be auto-approved
• Must be willing to work 2 out of 3 major holidays as scheduled
• Team supports floating to varying acuity levels and units as needed

Requirements

• Active IN or compact RN license in hand prior to start
• Minimum of 18 months to 2 years RN experience required, preferably in MedSurg with ICU and PCU exposure
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications from AHA or RQI
• Graduate of an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing school
• Cerner charting experience required
• COVID-19 vaccine required unless a documented medical or religious exemption is provided
• First-time travelers accepted
• Previous perm or PRN employees must be separated for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
• Not accepting local candidates for this position
