Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) telemetry position requiring cardiac and post-op heart care expertise and ACLS/BCLS certifications.

Responsibilities

• Work in a Progressive Care Unit with post-cardiac and post-vascular surgery patients
• Care for PCU patient population with strong emphasis on cardiac and telemetry cases
• Night shift schedule with three 12-hour shifts each week (19:00–07:30)
• Required to work every other weekend and may need to work consecutive weekends based on operational needs
• Expected to float between PCU, Med-Surg, and ICU units at both main and nearby affiliate hospitals
• Staffing ratios range from 1:3 to 1:5 based on patient acuity
• Utilizes Cerner EMR system and experience with this system is required
• Potential charge nurse responsibilities assigned as needed, with appropriate training provided
• Responsible for monitoring, assessing, and providing specialized care to patients after cardiac and vascular surgeries
• Floating to different levels of care within and between hospital campuses is required; refusal to float may result in termination
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• COVID vaccination is mandatory unless a valid medical or religious exemption is provided with a doctor's note
• Must work two out of three major holidays as specified by the hospital
• Former permanent or PRN employees must have a 12-month break before applying as a traveler
• Up to five days of requested time off may be auto-approved

Requirements

• Active IN or compact state RN license required at time of consideration
• ACLS and BCLS certifications from AHA or RQI, current at time of consideration
• Minimum of 18 months to 2 years of relevant PCU experience required
• Demonstrated experience with Level 1 or Level 2 trauma, telemetry, IV start, and titration of cardiac drips
• Graduation from a nursing program accredited by ACEN or CCNE
• Experience caring for post-cardiac and post-vascular surgery patients
• Must not be a local candidate unless applying for certain perioperative roles
