Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neurosurgical/Neuroscience Med/Surg night shift position with IV start skills and Cerner EMR proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Work in a Neurosurgical/Neuroscience Med/Surg and stepdown unit within a hospital setting
• Patient population includes ages 15-100+, neuro trauma, MVA, stroke, seizure, brain and spinal cord injuries, craniotomies, laminectomies, and shunt placements
• Staffing ratio is typically 1:5-6
• Early mobility and rehab are emphasized in collaboration with therapy teams
• Procedures include in-and-out caths, lines, g-tubes, occasional lumbar punctures and trachs, PCA pumps, and wound vacs
• Night shift schedule with 3x12 hour shifts from 19:00 to 07:30
• Required to work every other weekend and possibly consecutive weekends as needed
• Unit charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned with training provided
• Floating required to other levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) and between affiliate hospitals
• Cerner charting system is used and required
• Daily duties involve primary care for neurosurgical and neuroscience patients with support from the charge nurse and therapy teams
• Charge nurse typically holds a reduced assignment to provide additional team support
• Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays as part of the contract
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Floating within hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals is required
• Up to 5 days of requested time off (RTO) may be auto-approved

Requirements

• Active IN or Compact RN license in hand
• BCLS and NIHSS certifications required (AHA & RQI accepted and must be current)
• Graduate of an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
• Minimum of 18 months to 2 years of Med/Surg experience required
• IV start skills required
• Experience with MS/Tele and PCU-level care accepted
• Cerner EMR charting experience required
• Not accepting local candidates for this position
• Former perm or PRN employees must have a 12 month separation before consideration
