Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Float position requiring experience across all PCU and Medical-Surgical units and proficiency with Epic EMR.
Responsibilities
- Work as a PCU/MS Float RN covering all PCU and Medical-Surgical units in a hospital setting
- Assignment consists of night shifts (3x12 hours, 6:45pm-7:15am) with option for 4x12s upon request
- Frequent floating required, with possible reassignment every 4 hours up to 2-3 times per shift
- Patient ratios average 5:1 in PCU and 6:1 in MS units, possibly flexing up to 7:1
- Epic charting experience is required
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule block
- Must cover one holiday per 13-week contract
- Responsibilities include providing advanced nursing care for PCU and MS patients and responding to rapid response/code situations
- Must be comfortable floating to all related units within the float pool as needed
- Team environment within a large, Level I Trauma Center and academic teaching hospital
- First-time travelers are accepted for this position
- Local candidates are eligible for consideration
- Must provide two professional references for consideration
- All requests for time off or schedule preferences must be submitted up front
- Facility may call off up to one shift every two weeks per contract policy
Requirements
- Active VA or Compact RN license required, or pending license with single-state RN status from a non-compact state
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
- Prior experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration
- Proficient in central line care, trach management, and non-invasive airway support (nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, chest tubes)
- Experience in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, titrating cardiac drips, and emergency response
- Skilled in managing PCA, heparin protocols, IV insulin, and endocrine/metabolic conditions
- Background in telemetry and stepdown-level patient care, with cardiovascular pre/post cardiac cath experience
- Epic EMR experience is required
