Job Description
American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse for a PCU position requiring Epic experience and current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Responsibilities
- Work in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with a focus on medical-renal patients
- Provides care to adult and geriatric patients including chronic vent, hospitalist medicine, and renal cases
- Patient ratio is 1:5
- Serves as an alternative unit for gastrointestinal, pulmonary, and other surgical or procedural patients
- Night shifts: 3x12 hours (18:45-07:15), with option for 4x12s upon request
- Weekend requirement may be every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
- Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
- Charting is done using Epic (Epic experience required)
- Required to float within skillset
- Responsible for managing adults and geriatric patients with various acute and chronic diagnoses
- Care often includes chronic vent patients and those with complex renal or medical needs
- Participates in rapid response and code teams as needed
- Team structure includes support from hospitalist medicine and various surgical specialties
- Must provide care under isolation precautions when needed
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted
- All requests for time off and special scheduling must be made in advance
- Must work at least one holiday during the contract
- Two references are required for consideration
Requirements
- Active VA or compact RN license required; pending license accepted if applicant holds a single-state license from a non-compact state
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Experience in PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown settings required
- Proficient in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and non-titrating cardiac drips
- IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line management skills required
- Experience providing respiratory support and non-invasive airway management
- Familiarity with rapid response and isolation protocols
