Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a day shift Emergency Room position requiring a MN RN license and advanced life support certifications.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Emergency Room of an acute care setting
• 11 beds total with 7 dedicated ER beds and 2 trauma bays
• Level 4 Trauma center and stroke ready facility
• Patient population includes pediatrics to geriatrics with cases such as strokes, chest pain, abdominal pain, flu, and multivehicle accidents
• Average daily ER volume is 25-40 patients with a nurse to patient ratio of 1:4
• Required to work 12-hour day shifts (7a-7p) and triage hours (8a-8p)
• Weekend scheduling is every third weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday rotation required, with night holidays covering both before and night of the holiday
• Uses Epic EMR
• No call or floating required
• Grey scrubs required
• Primary responsibilities include providing ER nursing care and managing triage as needed
• Nurses manage respiratory therapy equipment prior to tele-RT consultation
• Experience with sedative, paralytic, pressor, and Cardizem drips is necessary
• Unit is typically staffed with 2 RNs in the ER and a third triage nurse when urgent care is open
• Urgent care is part of the ER but travelers rarely cover urgent care
• Orientation consists of 3 shifts (more if needed), with night shift orientation provided during daytime hours
• All new hires will rotate holidays with permanent staff
• No charge nurse on duty at all times; staffed with RNs and a house supervisor at night
• No in-house security; tele-RT available via iPad 24/7

Requirements

• Active MN RN license required
• Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC
• Minimum 1 year of Emergency Room RN experience
• Experience with IV starts, Foley catheters, labs, troubleshooting and vent management
• Competence in managing respiratory equipment including ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and High Flow
• Ability to read telemetry strips
• Comfortable working with limited resources
