Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele Pulmonary night shift position requiring 2 years of acute care and telemetry skills.
Responsibilities
- Work in an acute care hospital on a 30-bed med/surg and 8-bed progressive care pulmonary unit (Level 1 Trauma)
- Patient populations include pulmonary conditions such as pneumonia, COPD, CHF, COVID-19, pulmonary embolism, and complex cases needing advanced respiratory and cardiac monitoring
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4-5 on day shift, 1:5-6 on night shift; 1:3 in Pulmonary Acute for IMC RNs
- Duties include medical-surgical and telemetry care, mechanical and non-invasive ventilation (Bipap, Cpap, Heated High Flow, oxygen titration), moderate sedation, chest tubes, tracheostomy care, and IV medication administration
- Uses Epic EMR and Alaris pumps; experience with these systems is preferred
- Night shifts with 12-hour shifts; every other weekend and holiday required
- Floating to other med-surg units is required, with travelers reassigned first
- Day 1 orientation covers telemetry and mechanical ventilation competencies, followed by precepted shifts and clinical validations
- Supportive and collaborative team culture with opportunities for professional development and committee participation
- Advocates for patient safety and high quality care while developing skills in time management and clinical judgment
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Holiday coverage is required as part of the rotation
- Return candidates must have a 6 month gap since last employment at any Sanford Health location
Requirements
- Active SD or compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of recent hospital acute care and telemetry experience
- Current BLS (AHA) and ACLS (AHA) certifications required
- Experience with Bipap, Cpap, Heated High Flow, oxygen titration, moderate sedation, and telemetry required
- Ability to care for complex pulmonary patients using electronic charting (Epic) and IV medication delivery (Alaris pumps)
