Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a fast-paced telemetry observation unit requiring strong cardiac monitoring skills and active WV or compact licensure.

Responsibilities

• Position is in a 21-bed MedSurg and cardiac observation unit within an acute care hospital
• Average nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6
• Common patient populations include pre/post cath, chest pain rule-outs, heparin drips, COPD, CHF, pacers, arrhythmias, and general MedSurg diagnoses
• Set-rate Cardizem, Amiodarone, Bumex, and Lasix drips are administered
• RN must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips; telemetry techs support on the 3rd floor, unit monitor on-site for real-time viewing
• Uses Epic EMR; Epic experience is required
• All shifts are 12 hours (7a-7p or 7p-7a), with every other weekend required for travelers
• Travelers are typically the first to float and may be assigned to other areas of the hospital within their skillset, including ICU and Stepdown
• Unit is busy and fast-paced with frequent discharges and admissions
• Charge nurse available 24/7 and may take patients on night shift
• One day of computer training and one day of on-the-floor shadowing provided for orientation
• Royal blue scrubs required; scrub jackets must be actual scrub jackets with no hoodies or sweatshirts allowed
• Time off requests must be submitted with contract; exceptions require approval
• All travelers may be assigned to cover holidays and weekends based on unit needs
• Travelers must live more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates not accepted
• Returning employees must have a 2-year break from any WVU facility before returning as a traveler and may not exceed one year of cumulative WVU travel assignments without a 2-year break
• First-time travelers will be considered
• May require EKG competency testing based on facility policies

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications from AHA
• Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience required
• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret telemetry strips
• Experience with set-rate Cardizem and Amiodarone required; experience with TR Bands preferred
• Must present an unexpired driver’s license for consideration
• Epic EMR experience required
