Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Med Surg position in a Long Term Acute Care setting, requiring an active IL RN license and BLS certification.

Responsibilities

Work in a Long Term Acute Care (LTAC) Med Surg unit within an acute care hospital
Night shifts with 12-hour scheduling, typically 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
Patient population includes respiratory failure, post-surgical, wound care, IV antibiotics, post-stroke, post-trauma, and cardiac patients
Unit has 10 beds with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5
Nurses are required to titrate Heparin drips
Use of Epic for electronic medical records
Monitor Techs in ICU oversee telemetry; nurses are not required to read strips
Respiratory therapists manage all RT equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow devices
Every other weekend and holiday coverage required
Potential to float to ICU and Acute Rehab units
House Supervisor is available 24/7 for support
Nurse aids/patient care techs available with 1:10 ratio
Scrubs must be worn, any color allowed; only facility-approved t-shirts allowed
Classroom orientation per policy and two shifts on unit with preceptor provided
Holiday rotation required
No call or standby requirements at present, subject to change
Local candidates are accepted with local rate adjustments for those within 50 miles
COVID vaccination is not required for this position

Requirements

Active IL RN license required
Minimum of 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience in an acute or LTAC setting
Current BLS certification from AHA required
Experience with PEG tube care and feedings, CVC/PICC/Midline usage and care, and tracheostomy patient management
Ability to titrate drips, specifically Heparin
Experience using Epic EMR preferred
