Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Float Pool position covering ICU, MedSurg, Tele, and PCU on night shifts, requiring an active AZ or compact RN license and ICU experience.

Responsibilities

  • Position is based in an acute care hospital Float Pool, including ICU, MedSurg, Tele, and PCU units across two campuses
  • Patient populations include geriatric, orthopedic, post-procedural, and stepdown cardiac patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios: PCU 1:4, MedSurg Tele 1:5-6
  • Assignment involves floating between ICU, MedSurg, Tele, PCU, and inpatient holding in the ED
  • Required to manage titratable drips including Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin
  • Must be able to interpret telemetry strips and work with monitor techs
  • Night shift, 12-hour shifts, with every other weekend requirement; block scheduling may be accommodated
  • Standby/call may be required for scheduled shifts
  • Charting system is Cerner; Cerner experience is preferred
  • Orientation includes general hospital orientation and shadowing on designated units
  • Notification of unit assignment provided 2 hours prior to the shift via text message
  • Solid color professional scrubs required, transitioning to navy
  • Daily duties include providing comprehensive nursing care and managing multiple patient populations across ICU, stepdown, and telemetry units
  • Travelers are first to float among units as needed
  • Heated high flow, BiPAP, and CPAP equipment used in PCU and MedSurg settings
  • Charge nurses present and non-assigned; nurse aids utilized on all units
  • Travelers included in permanent staff holiday coverage rotation
  • Navy scrubs required per dress code update
  • Travelers must pass a sterile technique test for Foley insertion and central line dressing changes on the first orientation day
  • Orientation includes 8 hours of general hospital orientation and unit-specific shadowing shifts
  • Notified of unit assignment 2 hours prior to shift start
  • Assignment spans two campuses with a 20-25 minute travel distance between them

Requirements

  • Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience, with at least 1 year in an ICU setting
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Must pass a dysrhythmia (Relias) exam with 80% or better within two attempts prior to contract signing
  • Experience caring for post-MI, post-cardiac cath, and CABG post-op patients required
  • Ability to titrate drips and manage cardiac and stepdown patient populations
  • Must be able to work night shifts and every other weekend
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
  • Cannot have been employed (FT, PT, PRN) by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facilities within the past year
  • References required: 1 supervisor from past 12 months, plus 1 peer or supervisor from last 3 years
